Some places immediately feel like a holiday destination the moment you arrive. The sea air, the colourful shopfronts, the sound of people chatting outside cafés and the sight of a wide sandy beach stretching towards the horizon all combine to create that feeling.
That was our experience of Rhosneigr, one of Anglesey’s most popular seaside villages and a destination that perfectly captures the relaxed atmosphere of a summer day on the Welsh coast.
Our visit was intended as a leisurely stop for ice cream, sightseeing and a little shopping. A few hours later, we were still wandering around the village, discovering hidden corners and enjoying the beach views. With the sun out and the sea breeze blowing, it’s a picture perfect beach day.

Starting at the Clock Tower
Like many visitors, we began our exploration around the distinctive Rhosneigr Clock Tower, a familiar landmark in the centre of the village.
From here, it was easy to stroll along the High Street and explore the independent shops, cafés and restaurants that give Rhosneigr its character.
The village has a lively yet relaxed atmosphere. Visitors browse the shops, families head towards the beach carrying buckets and windbreaks, and outdoor tables fill quickly whenever the sun makes an appearance.
Every Path Leads to the Beach
One of the joys of exploring Rhosneigr is that the sea is never far away.
Every time we spotted a public pathway leading between houses, cottages or side streets, we followed it. Each path revealed another wonderful view of the beach.
The village sits beside some of the finest sandy beaches on Anglesey. Broad expanses of golden sand stretch along the coastline, backed by dunes and framed by distant views across the Irish Sea.
Several paths led us past impressive seaside homes that enjoy some of the best views on the island. Large contemporary properties stand alongside traditional cottages, creating an interesting mix of architectural styles.
Each new viewpoint encouraged us to continue exploring.

A Hidden Bluebell Woodland
One unexpected discovery came while wandering between some of the cottages near the coast.
Tucked away among the houses was a small woodland carpeted with bluebells.
The contrast between the vibrant flowers and the nearby coastal scenery created a lovely surprise. It felt like one of those hidden corners that many visitors walk past without noticing.
These small discoveries often become the moments that stay in your memory long after a trip has ended.

Ice Cream at Chaplin’s
No seaside visit feels complete without ice cream.
Our choice was Chaplin’s Ice Cream & Coffee Bar, a popular local favourite conveniently located in the village centre.
The queue moved steadily, helped by the efficient service, and it quickly became clear why the café attracts so many customers during the summer months.
Armed with our ice creams, we continued our walk through the village and along the seafront, enjoying the sunshine and the relaxed holiday atmosphere.

Cafés and Restaurants Full of Life
One thing that stood out immediately was how busy the village was.
Many of the cafés and restaurants were packed, with customers enjoying food and drinks especially at their outdoor tables beneath the summer sun.
Several establishments caught our attention during our visit, including:
- Caffi Notos
- Mojo’s Creperie
- Medra
The variety of dining options contributes greatly to Rhosneigr’s appeal. Visitors can find coffee shops, casual lunches, seaside treats and evening dining all within a short walk.
We also spotted Scarlett’s Fish & Chips, which was closed during our visit. The takeaway looked like an excellent option for anyone wanting fish and chips to enjoy on the beach or by the sea.

Another venue that caught our eye was Sandy Mount House, often known locally as SMH. This stylish hotel, restaurant and bar has become one of the area’s best-known dining destinations. Unfortunately, it was not open during our visit, though it has certainly been added to our list for next time.
Independent Shopping by the Sea
Rhosneigr offers plenty of opportunities for browsing and shopping.
We spent time exploring several independent stores, including:
- Janet Bell Gallery
- Gecko
The Janet Bell gallery showcases artwork inspired by coastal life and the landscapes of Wales, while Gecko combines gifts, beachwear and surf-inspired clothing.
Further towards the beachfront, we visited:
- Quba & Co
- Funsport
Rhosneigr has earned a strong reputation as a watersports destination, so it comes as no surprise to find specialist surf and outdoor retailers serving both visitors and locals.
These shops stock everything from beach clothing and accessories to equipment for paddleboarding, surfing and other coastal activities.
A Paradise for Watersports
Even a brief visit makes it clear why Rhosneigr attracts watersports enthusiasts from across the UK.
The village sits between several excellent beaches and enjoys conditions that are popular with:
- Windsurfers
- Kitesurfers
- Paddleboarders
- Kayakers
- Sailors
- Sea swimmers
The open bay and reliable coastal winds have helped establish Rhosneigr as one of Wales’ leading watersports centres.
Visitors often see colourful kites and sails scattered across the water during favourable conditions.
Visiting with a Dog
Our dog joined us throughout the visit.
We largely stayed off the main beach. This is not due to any restrictions that we are aware of, but our fussy dog not wanting too much sand on his body. The last we checked, both main beaches, Traeth Crigyll (Town Beach) and Traeth Llydan (Broad Beach) are open to dogs and offer miles of open, golden sand for your dog to explore.
The coastal paths and village walks still provided plenty of opportunities for him to enjoy the sights, sounds and sea air.
He seemed perfectly content taking in the scenery alongside us.
Anyone travelling with dogs will find plenty of walking routes around the village and along sections of the coastline, making Rhosneigr an enjoyable stop for four-legged companions as well. Although, the beach is the when your four-legged friends are keen.
Making the Most of Your Visit
For visitors planning a trip, Rhosneigr works well as either a short stop or a full day out.
A few ideas include:
- Explore the village shops and galleries
- Enjoy an ice cream or coffee near the Clock Tower
- Take a walk along the beach access paths
- Watch the watersports action from the shore
- Browse the independent boutiques
- Enjoy lunch at one of the village cafés
- Visit during sunset for beautiful coastal views
- Combine your visit with other Anglesey attractions nearby
A Seaside Village & More
Rhosneigr combines everything many people look for in a coastal destination: beautiful beaches, independent businesses, excellent food and a relaxed holiday atmosphere.
Our visit began with the simple goal of finding an ice cream and enjoying the views. The afternoon became an enjoyable exploration of the village, its shops, hidden corners and spectacular coastline.
For anyone touring Anglesey, Rhosneigr deserves a place on the itinerary. Bring comfortable walking shoes, allow time for browsing, and take every opportunity to follow those paths leading towards the sea. The views waiting at the end are well worth the short walk.
