After a long day of driving, walking, sightseeing and exploring Snowdonia and Beaumaris, there comes a point when another sandwich or plate of fish and chips simply will not do. That was exactly how we ended up at Sarisa Indian Kitchen in Beaumaris on a late Sunday afternoon
Set on a quieter street just a short walk from the centre and waterfront, Sarisa Indian Kitchen feels close to everything without being right in the middle of the tourist bustle. It is only a short walk from some of Beaumaris’ main attractions, including Beaumaris Castle, Beaumaris Pier, and Beaumaris Gaol and Courthouse, making it a convenient dinner choice after a day of exploring the town. The restaurant is listed at 17 Church Street, Beaumaris, Isle of Anglesey, LL58 8AB. You do have to look for it as it is hidden away behind a courtyard accessible through arched walkway.
We later discovered that Sarisa is often described as one of the main Indian dining options in Beaumaris, and it is clearly popular with both visitors and locals. Review platforms show strong overall feedback, with Restaurant Guru listing Sarisa at around 4.5 from Google reviews, and Tripadvisor also showing a strong rating profile. On the evening of our arrival, a guest who stayed at an AirBnB nearby mentioned that she was there last night and the food was great through a little pricey.

First Impressions
Sarisa Indian Kitchen made a good first impression. The dining room was clean, spacious and airy, with a pitched gable roof and vaulted ceiling that gave the place more breathing room than many small-town restaurants. It felt relaxed rather than cramped, which was welcome after a full day out.
The waiting staff were friendly, attentive and approachable without hovering. We got chatting after the meal and found out that the floor manager had worked in several restaurants, including The Eastern Eye in Bath, then The Grand Eastern, and now Pearl of India. That little conversation added warmth to the evening and made the service feel more personal.

What We Ordered
We started simply with plain pappadums and a chutney set, which included the usual favourites: mint sauce, onion salad, lime pickle and mango chutney. It was a familiar and satisfying way to begin, especially after a long day outdoors.
For mains, we ordered from both the specials and traditional sections of the menu.
From the specials menu, we chose the Butter Chicken, described as marinated chicken cooked in butter, tomato sauce and cream. It was rich, smooth and comforting, exactly the sort of dish you want when you are tired and hungry.
From the traditional dishes, we ordered Saagwala with lamb and chicken. Although lamb and chicken together did not appear as a standard menu option, the restaurant was happy to prepare it that way for us. This matched what some Google reviewers have also praised, with one noting that Sarisa offers a mixed chicken and lamb curry which they found “fabulous.”
We also ordered an extra side of Saag Bhaji, spinach tossed in a pan with onions, garlic and coriander. After days of sandwiches, chips and seaside food, we were quite ready for something green and nourishing. Spinach felt like exactly the right direction.
For sundries, we added Pilau Rice, basmati rice cooked with butter and aromatic spices, and a Garlic Nan, baked in the tandoor.
The Food
Overall, the food was enjoyable, satisfying and well timed. It arrived without a long wait, and the portions were generous enough for a proper evening meal.
The Butter Chicken was the most comforting dish on the table: creamy, tomato-rich and easy to enjoy. It had that mellow, rounded quality that makes butter chicken such a crowd-pleaser.
The Saagwala Lamb and Chicken was a good choice too, especially because the mixed meat option gave the dish more variety. The spinach base made it feel hearty without being too heavy, and the lamb was tender enough to stand up well in the sauce.
The Saag Bhaji was the only dish that felt slightly less successful. It was a little dry for our taste, though this may simply be the house style. Different Indian restaurants prepare spinach sides differently: some keep them wetter and richer, while others serve them drier and more pan-tossed.
The Garlic Nan and Pilau Rice did exactly what they needed to do. The naan was a good partner for the curry sauces, and the rice was fragrant without overpowering the dishes.
A Note on Heat and the Naga Chilli Add-On
One small point did take the shine off slightly.
During ordering, the waiter asked whether we would like to add more heat to the curries. We did not think too much of it and agreed. The dishes were not overwhelmingly hot, and in fact the extra heat was fairly modest.
However, after paying the bill, we noticed that naga chilli add-ons had been charged separately at £1.50 each. In hindsight, this felt a little cheeky. It would have been better if the extra charge had been made clear at the time of ordering.
This was not enough to spoil the meal, but it is worth mentioning. If you are asked whether you would like extra heat, it may be worth checking whether that comes with an additional charge.
Also, we asked for a jug of tap water for the table which the waitress happily obliged at no extra cost. We saw some bottled water on the other tables and again think nothing off it but later discovered from reading the reviews, that customers were charged £5 for the bottled water which can be another surprise like our Naga Chilli Add-On.
Service and Atmosphere
Service was one of the stronger parts of the experience. Staff were friendly, efficient and easy to speak to. This also seems to be a recurring theme in online reviews, where diners often mention attentive service, pleasant staff, quick takeaway service and a welcoming atmosphere. Several reviewers also praise the restaurant for allowing small dogs in, which is useful to know for visitors staying in or around Beaumaris.
The restaurant had a relaxed feel. It was clean, open and comfortable, and because it sits on a quieter street away from the busiest part of town, it felt like a good place to properly sit down and unwind.
What Other Diners Say
The wider reviews for Sarisa Indian Kitchen are generally very positive. Diners frequently mention friendly staff, clean surroundings, good portion sizes, tender lamb, well-spiced curries, good value and reliable takeaway service. Restaurant Guru summarises visitor feedback positively, noting dishes such as chilli chicken, lamb shanks, naan, butter chicken, chicken tikka and tandoori mixed grill among frequently mentioned choices.
Several reviewers describe Sarisa as a welcome find in Beaumaris, especially for those staying locally or wanting something different from the usual coastal-town food. That matched our experience too. After several days of simpler travel meals, Sarisa gave us something warmer, spicier and more satisfying.
Would We Go Back?
Yes, we would go back.
Sarisa Indian Kitchen is a solid choice if you are staying in Beaumaris or visiting Anglesey and want a relaxed Indian meal in the evening. The food was tasty, the room was pleasant, the service was friendly, and the location was convenient without being right in the middle of the busiest tourist stretch.
The only caution is to check any extras before agreeing to them, especially if offered additional chilli or heat. Apart from that, it was a very enjoyable meal and a welcome change after a long day of exploring North Wales.
