On our way home after our visit to Durham on a Sunday morning, we stumbled upon this quaint seaside town called Saltburn-by-the-Sea. We didn’t exactly visit the town but just the Saltburn Beach. However, we quickly realised just how much the place has to offer had any of the restaurants and attractions been open.

When in Saltburn, take a stroll along the seaside walkway and visit the ‘beach huts of many colours’. We were there on a quiet Sunday morning, so had the place practically to ourselves.

So we turned up at Minack Theatre in Porthcurno on a bad weather day but enjoyed the experience just the same as we were in the middle of a Rehearsal of “The Last 5 Years”. We also enjoyed the beautiful subtropical garden that forms par of the landscape here.

I know, it’s not quite the main attraction when you visit an open air theatre carved into the side of a steep cliff but we couldn’t resist. The collection of subtropical plans dotted next to the paths and steps was so intriguing and beautiful we had to take photos of them to share here.

Right after the Telegraph museum in Porthcurno is a bay with a beautiful beach, the Porthcurno Beach. In fact, we parked our car near the Telegraph museum only to discover that there is another, bigger car park nearer the path to the beach. Other beaches in the bay are Pedn Vounder and Percella Lizzie but […]

When I first heard the name Mousehole, it conjured up images of Tom pursuing Jerry as he escapes, firmly and safely into that little black hole in the wall. We did not know what to expect, but this little dot on the Cornish coast between Penzance and Newlyn was certainly well worth the visit, even […]

The wide paved Mountbatten Breakwater with tower at the end is a favourite spot for fishing. It is also a great place to enjoy views of Plymouth Sound including the Royal Citadel and Smeaton’s Tower.

Quiet and calm are the words to describe the Mount Batten Beach in Plymouth. Given its secluded location, this isn’t the beach of choice for travellers and visitors. Even during peak seasons, the place is relatively quiet, frequented only by the locals and those in the know, and thankfully, not too many of them.

Overlooking Heybrook Bay to the left and Westlake Bay to the right, Renney Point is a hidden and secluded spot that yields breath-taking views over both bays as far as Plymouth Harbour. While there is no dedicated car park, there is ample parking space in front of the houses that line Heybrook Drive.

With Newlyn being the largest fishing port in the south-west of Cornwall, it is almost impossible not to be tempted by the vast choice of fish and shellfish to buy and take home or to your holiday destination. Just on the Strand next to the Newlyn Harbour market are at least three fish mongers selling […]
