We weren’t planning on stopping in Hounslow. It was a spontaneous detour on the way home from a long day out in London. The craving? Biryani. The vibe? Famished. After a few loops around the block, we found ourselves in front of Hyderabad (Biryani House)—a humble, fluorescent-lit eatery nestled among grocers and small shops off Bath Road.
At first glance, it looks like a no-frills takeaway spot. White lights, simple counters, plastic chairs. But what caught our eye was the giant deck of hot, aromatic curries laid out behind the glass—steaming pots of promise.

Location: Hounslow, London
Best For: Authentic biryani, budget-friendly meals, no-frills foodie adventures
The Experience
Though primarily a takeaway joint, the staff kindly set up a small table for us when we asked to dine in. No laminated menus. No fuss. Just a straightforward question: “Only chicken biryani today—is that okay?”
Moments after ordering, large foil containers were set down in front of us—piled high with rice and hidden underneath all that rice huge chunks of chicken. And just like that, dinner was served.
Dish by Dish
Chicken Biryani
This was the star of the show.
Each long grain of basmati rice was beautifully spiced and separate, not oily or clumped. The seasoning had just the right amount of heat, with subtle floral notes of saffron and a lingering whisper of bay leaf and cardamom.
But the real surprise? The chicken.
Two generously sized pieces, slow-cooked to tender perfection. Succulent, deeply flavoured, and falling off the bone, it was everything you want in a biryani—and rarely get at this price point.
Verdict: This is not your average British curry house biryani. This is authentic, street-style biryani that unapologetically caters to those who know the real deal. Forget the salad or vegetable curry sides, for that you will need to order separately. This is just your straight up and honest Chicken Biryani Rice.
Lamb Curry
Served in a microwavable container, the lamb curry came with a rich, deep-red gravy full of warming spices. A little oily, yes—but forgivably so. The lamb itself was slightly less tender than we hoped, but the bold, peppery finish more than made up for it.
Verdict: Order this as a side to share. The portion is generous, the flavour bold, and it’s a great way to round out the meal.
Atmosphere & Service
Ambience: Minimal to nonexistent. This is a place where food is the focus—no tablecloths, no decor, no curated playlist. Just fluorescent lights and the occasional clatter from the kitchen. Don’t look too closely either. Just focus on the food.
Service: Friendly and efficient. The staff were warm, even with minimal interaction. They didn’t rush us, and even though we weren’t typical takeaway customers, we were welcomed with kindness.
Dining Setup: Expect plastic cutlery, foil trays, and no tap water. But when the food hits this hard, who’s complaining?
Value for Money
Three full meals, one curry, and drinks—all under £15.
In London.
Let that sink in.
Just as we were leaving, the Tandoori Chicken, prepared on-site using the Tandoor ovens past the viewing gallery just came out. Here are the photos we captured. We will certainly be back for more biryani, curries and those mouthwatering tandoori chicken. Other dishes to apart from the Chicken Dum Biryani; Chicken Cury, Tandori Chicken, Chana Masala, Daal, Naan and Roti.
Final Thoughts
Hyderabad in Hounslow will not win points for style, and might even be outlawed for cleanliness (don’t look too closely!) but when it comes to authentic biryani at a ridiculous value, this place is unbeatable. It’s the kind of spot you almost don’t want to share with too many people—for fear the line will stretch out the door next time.
Come hungry. Come casual. And maybe bring your own napkins.
- Order ahead if you’re in a hurry—they move fast but the queue can grow.
- Take extra home—trust us, it reheats like a dream.
- Don’t skip the other curries, even if just for the sauce.
