Located between Bath and Bristol along the A4, Flourish Food Hall and Kitchen in Saltford is a beautifully reimagined space that brings together a farm shop, restaurant, and kitchen under one stylish roof. Located on the site of the former Glenavon Farm dairy barns, it has been thoughtfully redeveloped to offer both a shopping and dining experience that feels inviting and distinctly local.
On this visit, instead of a full lunch, we stopped by for a relaxed Sunday afternoon tea and cakes. The space—light-filled and spacious—features cosy corners, reclaimed furnishings, and industrial touches that create a welcoming atmosphere. It’s ideal for catching up with friends, unwinding with a book, or enjoying something sweet with a hot drink.
Flourish combines quality local produce, freshly prepared food, and a setting that’s both functional and full of character. In this article, we take you through our tea-time experience and everything that makes Flourish a standout stop in Saltford.
We have been to Flourish before for lunch. This time however we were there for tea and cakes on a Sunday afternoon.
What is Flourish?
Flourish is a local partnership to redevelop disused dairy barns and buildings at Glenavon Farm into a farm shop, restaurant and kitchen on the A4 between Bath and Bristol. The current buildings house the farm shop and adjacent to that is the food hall/restaurant both styled like barns.
It has an area of dedicated parking across the road opposite the main buildings and a large covered area for bicycles. The main dining area is the food hall, although there are also outside seating areas, both covered and open-air. The restaurant design is a mix of comfort-cosy and contemporary with seemingly reclaimed chairs paired with cosy tables for two contrastingly painted orange and light blue. A wood fire-burner in the middle of the vast space attempts to make up for the ‘coolness’ of the space.

Seating Areas
The overall feel of the space is industrial with exposed metal frames and beams painted black and a corrugated roof. Lamps hang in long strands from the high ceilings emphasising the vastness of the space. A projector shoots a silent video image of the key concepts of flourish on to a screen mounted high above the open kitchen.
At the height of busyness, the noise can be deafening – no thanks to the surrounding metal and concrete floors, but in low traffic times, Flourish is actually quite a pleasant place to sit, relax and chat.
Cakes, Tea and Coffee
The bright colours theme is kept through the crockery with dappled blue chunky stoneware/ceramic plates and sunshine yellow ‘London pottery’ style teapots for one and their mis-matched cups and saucers. They all work hard to seduce you in to thinking ‘casual’.
For their portion sizes, the cakes were actually rather pricey, ranging from 3.99 to 4.99. Thankfully they really were good and the richness of their flavours did mean that you couldn’t have had more than was served.
The individual baked Cheesecake topped with a smattering of berries, a drizzle of white chocolate, sat and a thin biscuit crumb base was gorgeously light. It was sweet enough to be tasteful without being overbearing. While baked, it still managed to maintain a lightness that was beautifully complemented by the berries.
The Tiramisu in a ‘mug’ was rich although the heady taste of coffee liqueur was absent in this version. The layers were beautifully separate although it was a shame that they could not be seen and the mascarpone cheese layers beautifully light.
The Earl Grey tea was strong enough but the slight after taste of it being from a tea bag instead of loose leaf, makes it slightly disappointing. The cappuccino was a pretty standard version from a coffee machine. Although the cup and saucer seemed small it was perfectly sufficient to complement the beautiful cakes for a nicely relaxing tea-time.
